I purchased this lake house in 1999, 4 years after I moved from Missouri to Texas. It was little more than a camp cabin measuring 25 ft X 40 ft including kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping porch. The back yard was grown up in raspberry bushes, brush, and weeds; because the owner was a Boy Scout leader and brought his troop here for monthly camp outs.
I was amazed by the construction of the house. The foundation is pier and beam with true 2 inch X 12 inch cross beams spaced 24 inches apart resting on real 10 inch X 8 inch support pillars spaced 6 feet apart. The siding is equally impressive being 12 inch X 8 inch 1 1/2 inch ruff cut pine boards. Finally the ceiling boards are 12 inch X 10 feet X 1 inch tongue and grove stained pine.
I used this home as my get-a-way/fun place until 2005 when I sold my city house and moved in. Some of Lake Toledo Bend and all of my home areas are located in the pristine Sabine National Forest. In June of 2005 I decided to make my retreat one of the most exceptional places on Toledo Bend Lake.
Toledo Bend Reservoir is a large artificial lake on the Sabine River between Texas and Louisiana. Construction on the Toledo Bend Dam began on May 11, 1964, and water impoundment began on October 3, 1966. The lake has an area of 185,000, the largest man-made body of water in (or partially in) Texas, the largest in the South, and the fifth largest in the United States. Toledo Bend Reservoir offers wonderful fishing, camping, hiking, and outdoor activities on a lake surrounded mostly by undeveloped land, most of it timberland and much of that is in The Sabine National Forest.
I hired an outstanding local general contractor, Mark Hohimer, and his crew, using computerized floor plans, started work on July 6 2005. The construction took over a year, but I think I accomplished my goal! Now my place has over 4500 square feet heated and cooled under roof, three new AC/Furnace unites, over 1200 square feet of porches, located with 7 lots (4 corner lots), a 315 foot lighted pier (largest and only lighted) a 40 ft X 30 ft swimming platform with diving board and water slide with Cruiser and double jet skis lifts! You be the judge if my dream home will be YOURS! Thanks for looking: Many more Pictures Available at http://photos.rickslakehome.com
